The study shows that rural-to-urban migrants who can fluently speak local dialect have stronger willingness of getting urban hukou. Acquiring the local dialect helps rural-to-urban migrants to increase advantage in human capital and enhance the level of incomeexpand local social network and reduce the subjective social distance, reduce discrimination and strengthen urban identity, thereby raising their desire of getting urban hukou.
