Class Description
Students have learned some structures and descriptions of food-making process in the former periods in this unit.
Teaching difficulties
Describing the process of making dishes.
Teaching aims
To enable Ss to understand the reading passage generally, including vocabulary, phrases and sentences.
To train Ss to retell the process of making a turkey dinner.
To guide Ss to know some information about Thanksgiving.
To cultivate Ss’ sense of being thankful to others.

Guess something about traditional food and special holidays
Answer the questions, read after the teacher and make sentences about new words.

Ask Ss to read the passage quickly and match the main idea with each paragraph.

Step 5 Guide the Ss to read the text carefully
1. Ask Ss to read the first five lines of Para. 1 and answer the questions below:
When is Thanksgiving? Why do people celebrate it?
2. Ask Ss to read the rest part of Para. 1.
(1) Help Ss to find out how the first Thanksgiving came and talk about it by telling a story; Then show a video about the origin of Thanksgiving.
(2) Get Ss to answer:
How do people celebrate Thanksgiving?
(Add more ways of celebrating Thanksgiving Day.)
