Teaching aims and learning objectives
To get to know the simple present tense.
To learn how to make positive and negative sentences, and ask and answer questions using the verb to be in the simple present tense. 
To communicate with each other using the verb to be in the simple present tense.

Teaching procedures
Activity 1.Lead in
Greetings
---How are you?
---I’m fine, thank you. And you?
---I’m fine.
Ask: You just said you are fine today, right?   (Write down the words: you are)
 Activity 2. Explain “to be” to the students .
           Include am is and are.
   Step 1.  Look at the picture and fill in the blanks, and explain the meaning of the simple present tense
Step2. Presentation and practise
     Maybe it’s too easy to finish this kind of task. But now Sandy has some trouble with her introduction. Can you help her to use the verb to be “am, is, are” to finish the blanks?
     Hello! My name ___ Sandy. This dog ___ my pet snoopy. My father ___ a teacher in a high school, his books ___ always everywhere in the study. My mother ___ a nice woman, her hair ___ long and beautiful, she likes it very much. Snoopy, my father and my mother ___ my family members, I love them. 
   Check the answers.
Step3. Short summary
     am--- only used to match with “I”
     is--- ① used to match with singular countable nouns;
          ② used to match with uncountable nouns.
     are--- used to match with plural countable nouns.

     Add “is  ,are” to the nouns.
