As one of the knowledge-based development methods, the configuration method based on customers’ demands fully utilizes the enterprises’ own available products resource, which can bring about the new automobile product more rapidly, meanwhile it can bring down the research cost. Thus it attaches increasing importance. The method of customer order-oriented auto configuration based on knowledge and the automobile configuration system is developed that have proved the theory and methods presented in the dissertation are correct and advanced. The structure of the current thesis is as follows: In the first chapter, the background of auto configuration technology is presented. In order to improve the actual technology’s flaw, the contents are introduced. At last, the general thesis structure is put forward, as well as the purpose and the significance. In the second chapter, the related concept and technologies will be introduced in automobile configuration and configuration design. It presents the principle of structure configuration based on GBOM. It also presents the choice of the methods for automobile configuration and the process of configuration. After a specified comparison, the methods and the process are introduced based on the combination of restrain and case. In the third chapter, the emphasis is put on the methods to require the customer
