Shanshu hua （山水画） Landscape painting is called shanshui hua in Chinese. shanshui stands for nature. landscape painting is thus called because mountain and water occupy the most important place in a piece of landscape painting. Nature is predominant, and human beings is only a part of it. This concept of man’s relationship with nature was especially executed in the painting of song dynasty. The symbolism in Chinese landscape The pine, represent uprightness and immortality. It is one of the trio of plants which are generally called “three friends of winter”. The other two being bamboo and prunes.
