FLLD MA-English/American Literature Program Regulations Maximum Time of Study (including the study of the Tunghai Teacher Training Program) Regular students: 2 years, extendable up to 4 years in total. In-service students: 4 years, extendable up to 6 years in total. 2. Curriculum and Credits 2.1 In addition to the M.A. Thesis, students have to complete at least 30 credits. 2.2 6 credits of required courses: Research Methods; Literary Theory and Criticism. 2.3 24 credits of elective courses: the following courses are examples of courses which have been offered in the program: Fiction Studies, Major American Authors of the 20th Century, Historical Fiction, American Landscapes: Explorations in Twentieth Century Writings, Modern Literature in the Southern United States, Utopian Literature, Detective Fiction: Form and Content, Shakespeare in Asia, American Jeremiads, The Gothic Tradition in Literature, etc. (All courses are 3-hour; 3-credit courses.) 3. M.A. Thesis Proposal 3.1 Students who have completed one year of study and completed 18 credits may 3.1.1 invite one fulltime FLLD faculty member to be the M.A. thesis supervisor and two more members for the MA Thesis Committee; the latter may be FLLD faculty members or faculty members from other departments at Tunghai University or other academic institutions, or a combination of both. 3.1.2 consider inviting two faculty members to be M.A. thesis co-supervisors. One of the co-supervisors must be a fulltime FLLD faculty member; the other may be an FLLD faculty member or a faculty member of another department at Tunghai University or another academic institution. 3.2. Upon approval from all the review committee members, the students will be allowed to complete and turn in, along with a copy of the thesis proposal, an application form for calling the M.A. Thesis Proposal Presentation Meeting.
