Definition of container Freight Container: Article of transport equipment which is of a permanent character and accordingly strong enough to be suitable for repeated use; specially designed to facilitate the carriage of goods by one or more modes of transport, without intermediate reloading; fitted with devices permitting its ready handling, particularly its transfer from one mode of transport to another; so designed as to be easy to fill and empty; having an internal volume of 1 m3 (35.3 ft3) or more. Types of container All kinds of containers can be categorized into two big groups - ISO containers and Non-ISO containers. Container groups are subdivided according to the following concepts: mode of transport, categories of cargo, and the physical characteristics of the containers. ISO Containers mean freight container complying with all relevant ISO container standards in existence at the time of their manufacture.
