Evaluation of fracture scale of buriedhill reservoirs
with the associated dimension of sonic l ogs

Abstract: Sonic log of buriedhill reser voirs is able to indicate t he ex istence of fractures, but it is generally incapable of
descr ibing the fracture scale. T he analysis of associated dimension of sonic lo gs perfo rmed at t he fracture interv als of
know n bur ied hills confirms that fractures of buried hills belong to fractal system . In addition , three other conclusio ns
are arr ived. 1 T he amount of asso ciated dimension indicates fracture w idt h and ex tension . 2 T he difference betw een
medium scale fractures ( i. e. fr actures w ith medium w idth and large scale fractures ( i. e. fractures w ith large w idt h
and ex tension show s off in tw o w ays. O ne is the associated dimension, the other is the dimension of stable phase space
and sampling spacing used in calculation of the asso ciated dimension . 3 M icro
scale fractures ( i. e. fractures w ith mi
crofractures have t he least associated dimension of sonic lo g, and the amount of the associated dimension is propo rtion
al to fracture scale.
