Annual population growth rate in more developed regions has been very low , or even negat ive, compared w ith the highest in the less developed countries whose population size expands rapidly . The less developed the regions are, the more rapidly population grow . Countries w ith more than 100 million population have expanded to 11 at present , while there w ere only 4 in 1950. The total population of these countries makes up over half of the world population. The number of such countries is expected to be 18 in 2050.
