Abstract Abstract In recent years, the technology of wireless communication develops fast. With the high-speed development of VLSI technique, it is probable to design the digital communication system with high complexity, and the AMI(Advanced Metering Infrastructure) communication system based on the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technology flourishes. In order to reduce the bad influence brought by Multipath Fading and improve data reliability and accuracy, the FEC(Forward Error Correct) is used to solve the problem of error rate in the data transmission. In such a system, the concatenated code is usually employed in the channel coding, and Viterbi decoder and RS decoder are frequently used as concatenated decoding at the receiving end. Firstly, Viterbi decoder conducts some error control on the basis of soft-decision to the outputs of de-interlacing module. Finally, RS decoder implements hard decision error correction to reduce the error probability further. This paper implements a RS decoder, which is applied in micro-power RF system. In the thesis, we introduced some theoretical basis of RS coding and decoding algorithm to begin with and then proposed a basic architecture of RS decoder. For the purpose of meeting the functional requirements of RS decoder in the RF system, we selected and optimized the structure of RS decoder based on BM algorithm carefully, and the design has been verified by software simulation using C language.
