Help the students understand and enjoy English humour by Charlie Chaplin’s career.

Teaching procedure
Step1 Lead-in
Show some funny pictures.
Show some English jokes and lead in the word “humour”, “humorous” and “humorist”.
Show pictures of a great Chinese humorist Zhao Benshan and a great English humorist Charlie Chaplin. Try telling the difference between Chinese humour and English humor.
Show some information about Charlie and his master piece “The Gold Rush”.
Step2 Reading.
Para 4 1. Ask students to read the first six lines of Para 4 to get the background of the short piece of “The Gold Rush”.
2. Enjoy the part of the movie “The Gold Rush” which is mentioned in the text.
3. Finish reading the rest lines of Para 4 and fill in the blanks about how he eats the worn-out shoe with his fellow in the small hut.
