Subtitle translation plays an increasingly important role in the foreign films and translation filed, Subtitle are an important means of communication to promote cultural exchanges. Taking In the Mood for Love as an example, the thesis attempts to study the subtitle translation from the perspective of Skopostheorie. Based upon a brief introduction to the development and basic rules, the thesis analyzes characteristics and goal of subtitle translation.Intergrated with some examples from Chinese version of In the Mood for Love, it proposes three possible translation strategies: literal translation and liberal translation and amplification, and it aims to give inspiration to those who are interested in subtitle translation research.
