School of Inform ation Science and Tech. , Southw est Jiaotong University, Chengdu 10031, China) Abstract: An adaptive sw itch ing interpolation filterwas proposed using New ton interpolation m ethod to remove salt and pepper noises in an mi age. M axmi um-m inmi um noise detector and adaptive w indow sizemethod w ere combined to identify p ixels w hich are likely to be corrupted by noises. Then the mi age is restored by iterative interpolation to replace each noised p ixelw ith a non-noised or repaired pixel in its vicin ity. Smi ulation results on mi agesw ith noise densities from 10% to 90% show that the proposed filter performsw ell in reducing salt and pepper noise in mi agesw ith good detail-preservation.
