How strength of gypsum based cotton straw fiber composite ma － terial is changing after water softening is discussed. Experimental results show that the amount of cotton straw fiber added can be greatly increased and bulk density of the composite material is decreased by adding sulfoaluminate cement ；the varies in the sul－ phuraluminate cement added amount has obvious effect on its strength and water resistance ；Meanwhile ，hydrolytic resistance of gyp－ sum based cotton straw fiber composite material when sulfoaluminate cement is added into is better.
