Load balancing is able to spread traffic across multiple concentrators. The client connects to a Virtual Cluster Master offering a single IP address per “group” of concentrators. This IP is a virtual address that will dynamically move between concentrators upon Virtual Cluster Master failure. The virtual IP address will allow for an initial IKE session and then will transparently redirect the client to the least loaded concentrator. Load information will be shared between concentrators using IPSec. If a cluster member concentrator fails, all VPN tunnels including remote access and site-to-site will need to be reestablished on other members of the cluster since individual chassis fail over is stateless.
