Unit3: Could you please tell me where the restrooms are?
Teaching Plan: Finish 1a, 1b and 1c in section A of unit 3.
Teaching Aims: 1. Learn to ask for information politely;
2. Learn to give correct directions and follow the directions.
Teaching Key Points: 1. Learn the key words: restroom; stamp; bookstore
2. Learn key sentence structures:
① Excuse me, could you please tell me how to get to the bookstore?
② Just go along Main Street until you pass Centre Street.
3. Do the listening practice.
Teaching Difficulties: 1. Grasp key words and sentence structures;
2. Learn to ask for information politely and follow the directions.
Teaching Methods: 1. Task-Based Language Teaching Method;
2. Teaching by practicing.
Teaching Process:
Step One: Lead-in
Show some different places like “restroom”, “bookstore’, “post office” to lead to the topic of this unit.
Step Two: Match and Read
The teacher may want to lead into the activity by getting Ss to talk about the picture. The teacher can make use of these prompts below:
·What places do you see in the picture?
(Answers: post office, library, restaurant, bank, bookstore, department store).
·What are the names of the two streets? (Answers: Main and Centre).
·What are the people doing? (Answer: The two girls are asking the two boys for information).
Step Three: Listening Practice
Provide Ss with the opportunity for further practice in using the target language by getting Ss to substitute any of the answers for the speech bubbles with other possible answers.
Keys: 1. Buy some stamps 2. Post office 3. Centre Street
4. Get a dictionary 5. Bookstore 6. Main Street
Step Four: Conversations Making
The teacher can work with the class to design a fictitious town and draw it out on the board. Ss can then use this fictitious town as the basis for their conversation.
