The First Period (SectionA1a—1c)
Teaching Aims
1. Knowledge objects
(1)Key words: whose truck rabbit attend pink picnic anybody
(2)Structures: Whose volleyball is this? It must be Carla’s/ It belongs to Carla.
(3) Be able to guess and analyze a kind of state and give the reasons.
2. Ability Objects
(1) Be able to use modal verbs correctly.
(2) Train students’ listening skill and communicative competence.
3. Moral Objects
Use your mind, and then make inferences correctly.
Teaching Key and Difficult Points
1. Master the structure “must/might /could/can’t/ be, belong to sb.”
2. How to improve students’ ability to listen and speak by learning modal verbs.

Teaching Procedures
Step 1. Leading in
1. Greet the class
2. Have students do the words competition
Step 2.Presentation
1 Guessing game
Give the pictures with covering a part of them, let students guess the owners of the things.
2 Teaching 1a 1b
Read the structures to the students. Then have students write down what they see in the picture in the blanks. Explain the word “belong” to the class.
Play the tape twice, students match each person with a thing and a reason.
Read the recording after the recorder.
Step 3. Practice
Oral practice. Teach activity 1c
Have students work in pairs to make new dialogues using the information in 1b.
Step 4.Consolidation
1. Encourage students to make their own conversations as much as possible using modal verbs. Finally, invite several pairs to perform for the whole class.
2. Do some exercises in quiz.
Step 5. Summary
The usage of modal verbs: might, could, must, and can’t.
Step 6. Homework
1 Read the recording materials.
2 Finish the exercises in the workbook.
