6. My bad luck had unexpectedly turned into a good thing.

Step 1
Revision.
1. Words:unexpected, by the time, backpack, oversleep
2. Complete the sentences.

Step 2
Lead-in.
Show Ss a video about September 11th attack in America in 2001 and a picture about an earthquake in New Zealand in 2011. Show Ss about the background about the two events. The two events mentioned above were unexpected and they changed many people’s lives. Now, let’s read a person’s stories related to the two events.
Step 3
First listen to the tape.Then skim the passage and match the event the writer mentioned with each paragraph.
Step 4
Listen and read the passage again. Please guess the meanings of the new words.
Step 5
Read the passage again and answer the questions.
1. Which two events does the writer mention?
2. How did the writer end up missing both events?
