Unit 4 I used to be afraid of the dark Section A ( 3a-3c ) From Shy Girl to Pop Star 蓬街私立中学 曹佳秀 Ⅰ. The Analysis of This Period: This period is a passage about Candy Wangs experience of becoming a pop singer, including how she has become a pop star, how she has changed, the good things and bad things that have happened to her after her becoming popular, as well as her advice to young people how to succeed. This passage is very appropriate to be used to help students understand how to become successful and how to deal with the difficulties and pressure that they have met at present. Ⅱ. The Analysis of the Students: The students of Grade Nine have learned how to describe the changes by using used to in Section A (1a- 1c) of Unit 4. Most of them are very interested in some famous stars as well as the lives of these pop stars, so they may be very interested in studying this passage. Whats more, the students in Grade Nine are under great pressure of how to succeed in entering senior high school. They need to be guided how to be successful and stimulated to work hard. Ⅲ. Teaching Aims: 1. Language aim: Students can read, understand and use these new words: used to, background, interview, Asian, deal with, shyness, dare to, crowd, tons of, private, guard, require 2. Ability aims: . Students can master these reading strategies of predicting, skimming and scanning. . Students will be able to make a summary about the passage. . Students can make an oral report about their own opinions. 3. Emotional aim: Students learn how to become successful and how to deal with the difficulties that they will meet on the way to success, as well as how to deal with the problems and pressure that they have met in their present life and study. They can also be stimulated to behave better in their life and study. Ⅳ. Teaching Key Points and Difficult Points: 1. Students can master these new words and reading strategies. 2.
