top view of the slot is drawn first and then the front view. In addition, its left view is drawn as shown in figure (d).  Part Ⅲ is cut off, where a swallowtailed slot (燕尾状的槽) is left. The slot consists of three surfaces which are two slot side surfaces (槽壁面) perpendicular to plane W and one slot bottom surface (槽底面) parallel to plane H. First, the left view of the slot is drawn. Secondly, the front view of it is drawn. Lastly, the top view of it is drawn as shown in figure (e). * Finally, check, erase unnecessary lines and brighten all the visible lines with the proper pencil of B or 2B. See Fig.5.11 (f). * 5.3 Dimensioning 5.3.1 Requirements of dimensioning The three views are usually used to describe the shape of an object. In dimensioning, three vital rules will be followed. 1. Each feature is dimensioned and positioned only once. 2. Each feature is dimensioned and positioned where its shape shows. 3. The dimensioning must accord with the regulation of the Chinese National Standard for Technical Drawing. * 5.3.2 Dimensioning primary object (基本立体的尺寸注法) 5.3.2.1 Dimensioning polyhedra Usually, the three basic dimensions, width (长), depth (宽) and height (高), determine the size of a primary object. Therefore, the size dimensions (形状尺寸) of a primary object include dimensions in width, depth and height.  For a polyhedron such as a prism or a pyramid, their size dimensions are shown in Fig. 5.12. The width and depth are given in the top view and the height in the front view. * Fig. 5.12 Dimensioning for polyhedra. * 5.3.2.2 Dimensioning revolutions The general method of dimensioning a cylinder is to give both its diameter and its altitude in the rectangular view as shown in Fig. 5.13 (a). Note that when we are dimensioning diameter, symbol “ ” leads the number of diametral dimension.
