1、Seeing Life in a different Light
An elderly [eld?li]? couple [k?pl] had two daughters.The older daughter was married to a man who sold umbrellas [?mbrel?z],while the younger [j??g?] one was married to a man who sold straw [str?:]hats.
Therefore [e??f?:]?,whenever it was a fine day,the mother would sigh [sai]:”Oh, it’s a bad day for my elder son-in-law.”
But if it was a rainy day ,she would sigh as well:”Nobody’s going to buy my younger son-in-law’s straw hats.” So she was never happy,rain or shine.
But her husband saw the matter in a different light.He was happy,rain or shine.On sunny days.he would think that his younger son-in-law would sell lots of straw hats,and on rainy days he would think of his elder son-in-law doing well selling his umbrellas.
In reality[ri?l?ti]{ 现实},happiness is a kind of attitude[?titju:d].It is never far from you,depending [dipend] on whether [wee?] you are contented[k?ntentid]{ 满足的, 心安的} or not.
What are the odds [?dz]{ 剩余的} so long as{ 只要的} you are happy.)
2、Cao Cao Burns Letters to play the Fool
In the year AD 200,Cao Cao(155-220)fought[f?:t] a famouse battle[b?tl] with Yuan Shao(153-202) at Guan Du,in which the former [f?:m?]{前者} defeated[difi:tid] the latter[l?t?]{ 后者}.From the letters he seized[si:zd]{ 抓住} from the enemy[enimi],Cao Cao discovered[disk?v?d] that many of his own generals[d?en?r?lz] had written to Yuan Shao in the course [k?:s] of the battle to indicate[indikeit]{ 显示} their intention[inten??n]{ 意图} to surrender[s?rend?]{ 投降}.
Instead[insted] of questioning[kwest??ni?] these generals one by one,as conventional[k?nven??nl]{ 传统的} practice [pr?ktis]{ 习惯,做法} would have required[rikwai?d],he was so shrewd[?ru:d]{
