About the author: Dorothy Parker Dorothy Parker Dorothy Parker was born in 1893 in New Jersey and grew up in New York. After selling some poems to Vogue, a very popular fashion magazine, in 1916, she was given a job writing about fashion for the magazine. She later became a drama critic and book reviewer for some other leading North American journals. A well-known poet, journalist, and playwright, she was also famous in the New York literary circles for her witty conversation. Married twice, divorced and widowed, she died alone in a hotel room in Manhattan in 1967. Dorothy Parker’s stories are often very short, and her poetry is simple and usually very funny.
