Step1:Lead in (5mins)
Activity1: Ask students to discuss two questions with partners.
Questions:
Have you ever read any English newspaper or Chinese newspaper? What are they?
Which would you prefer, English newspaper or Chinese newspaper? Why?
Activity2: Ask students to list some newspaper they usually read.
T: So class can you tell me some newspaper you usually read?
S: China daily, New York Times, Washington Post, 21 century, English Weekly...
(Purposes: To arose students’ interest and lead to the topic.)
Step2: Brainstorm (5mins)
Activity1: Ask students to brainstorm that what an outline is.
An outline includes a headline, main ideas and details.
Activity2: Ask students to answer some questions about the outline.
Questions: 1.Why an outline is important?
2.What should an outline conclude?
3.Why a headline is important?
4.What are the steps to finish a newspaper story?
5.What is the feature of the newspaper story?
(Purpose: By brainstorming, students have a basic idea of an outline and the newspaper story.)Step3: Pre-writing (5mins)
Activity1: Read the example of a newspaper story in the textbook. And ask students to answer the following questions after reading.
