It is a parched wasteland. A creator called Velociraptor roams in search of prey. We all know the Velociraptor depicted in the Jurassic Park movies as a man-sized, ruthless killer. Or at least we think we know it. 1998. A group of leading fossil hunters find the remains of a Velociraptor. Its an exciting discovery. But these fossils harbour a secret that will go overlooked for nearly a decade. In 2007, paleontologist Alan Turner re-examines the skeleton. On the forearm he feels a row of mysterious tiny bumps. Bumps that change our perception of Velociraptor forever. I was a bit surprised when I found em. I was looking at a number of different specimens of Velociraptor. I actually ended up feeling these bumps along the ulna, which is like the back of the arm, of the lower arm bone. All the features on these bumps on this bone were completely consistent with being quill knobs. The quill knob is where feathers attach themselves to the bone on a birds wing. What that was able to show us is that theres direct evidence from the bone that this Velociraptor was covered in feathers, and that specifically that their forearm had these really big modern feathers like youd see in living birds.
