This allows the blades to go to a safe position upon power loss. Pitch control changes the angle and thus lift of the blades. The blades are usually angled for maximum lift up to the rated wind speed of the inverter. Above rated speed, pitch control usually spills off the wind. You have too much power and thus pitch controls allows you to operate above rated wind speed while still at maximum power. The hub electronics usually talk back to the nacelle controls via a slip ring - Canbus, DeviceNet or EtherNet IP. Power to the Hub is also passed via slip rings as well. The Nacelle is the large enclosure at the top of the tower which usually contains the Generator, Yaw and Grid Tie Inverter cabinets and controls. Yaw control tracks the direction of the wind Inverter or sometimes called converter takes the variable frequency power from the generator and synchronizes it to the 60 or 50Hz grid – currently RA does not have an inverter – use 3rd party inverter Many of the inverters today are utilizing CANOpen. We would need a gateway between the main controller and the inverter. If the communications is CANOpen, HMS (Encompass Partner) makes a gateway product that can be used to go from EtherNet/IP to CANOpen. In the future, our inverter solution will be equipped with EtherNet/IP providing premier integration between the controller and inverter (similar to the drive integration today).
