The most important factors affecting the efficiency of machining on a machining center are cutter speed, feed, and depth of cut .If a cutting tool is run too slowly, valuable time will be wasted, resulting in lost production. Too high a speed will create too much heat and friction at the cutting edge of the tool, which quickly dulls the cutter. This results in having to stop the machine to either recondition or replace the cutter. Somewhere between these two extremes is the efficient cutting speed for each material being cut. Feed is the rate at which the work is fed into a revolving cutter . If the work is fed too slowly, time will be wasted, resulting in lost production, and cutter chatter, which shortens the life of the cutter, may occur. 此句的主干为:if …, time will be wasted, and cutter chatter may occur. If work is fed too fast, the cutter teeth can be broken. Much time will be wasted if several shallow cuts are taken instead of one deep cut or roughing cut. Therefore, speed, feed, and depth of cut are three important factors which affect the life of the cutting tool and the productivity of the machine tool. Charts and tables containing speeds, feeds, and depth of cut are available from cutting tool manufacturers, machinery handbooks, etc. The programmer must select the proper speeds and feeds for each part to be machined, so that the part is produced in the shortest period of time while considering cutting tool life. Generally, cutting tool breakage occurs because the cutter is dull, or the depth of cut is cha
