Bio-sketch of the author: Rudy Thauberger (1961— ) was born in the province of Saskatchewan /sEs5kAtFEwB:n/, Canada. ?He holds an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. He has published numerous short stories and articles and is the winner of several short-story writing competitions held in Canada. Rudy Thauberger also writes screenplays. His first screenplay The Rhino Brothers hit it big and it was produced by an independent Canadian film company in 2001. It is about a young man’s struggle to reclaim his life from the wreckage of his failed hockey career. Currently Rudy Thauberger is working on several feature film scripts, as well as comic books and short stories 2. About the text: “Goalie” first appeared in the anthology The Rocket, the Hammer, the Flower, and Me: A Hockey Fiction Reader (1989), edited by Doug Beardsley. It has been anthologized (把…收入选集) over twenty times and was once broadcast on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation).This is a story about sport and family. It does not focus on the excitement of the sport, but on the role of the sport within the family. Interestingly, no names are given to the characters in the story, but readers are able to understand the relationship between the narrator and the main character. Written in a terse and lucid style, the story provides the reader with an enjoyable reading experience. 3. About ice hockey: Ice hockey (冰球，冰上曲棍球) is a fast-paced team sport played on ice, where skaters use sticks to direct a puck (/pQk/ 冰球) into the opponent team’s goal. It is a full contact sport and carries a high risk of injury. Ice hockey is one of the four major North American professional sports (the other three being baseball, basketball, and the American football).
