However, it has the potential to cause rhythm disturbances. As part of a study to evaluate the postoperative analgesic effects of intravenous infusion of multi-dose adenosine in patients undergoing open abdominal gynecologic surgery, this manuscript assesses the change of heart rhythm in these patients during the intraoperative period. Methods: A total of 166 patients undergoing major gynecologic surgery under general anesthesia were enrolled and randomly assigned to received 1 of 4 doses of adenosine infusion (25, 50, 100, or 200 mcg/kg/min) or matching placebo. Study drug administration was started at the time of skin incision and discontinued at end of surgery. A standardized general anesthetic regimen was used and adjusted based on hemodynamic values (HR and BP within 25% of baseline) and BIS values maintained between 50 and 60. Heart rate and rhyth
