The brief introduction of Shanghai Shanghai is the largest city in China with over 22 million people. It covers an area of 6340.5 square kilometers. It consists of 18 divisions including 17 urban districts and one county Island. Magnolia is Shanghai’s city flower. It is located on China’s central eastern coast just at the mouth of the Yangze River. The territory of Shanghai looks like a peninsula which is bordered by the Yangze River on the north, the Hangzhou Bay on the south, the East China Sea on the east, and the Jiangsu province in the west with a huge lake close to the border. It has a humid subtropical monsoon climate the four distinct seasons. In Chinese, Shanghai is known as Hu or Shen. Hu is a device for catching fish. And shen is the name of Lord Chunsheng, a hero of the Chu kingdom, whose territory included Shanghai area. Originally a fishing and textiles town, Shanghai became a very important city in the 19th century due to its favorable port location and as one of the cities open to foreign trade by the 1842 Treaty of Naking. In 1930s the city flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became a multinational hub of finance and business. According to the open-up policy, Pudong new area was established on April. 18th, 1990. In 2010, Shanghai held the world Expo. Shanghai honored its highest GDP of over us10,000 dollars in China. The Shanghainese enjoy a high living standard in every aspects, such as education, transportation, medical insurance, housing condition, and culture facilities. Tourism also develops quickly in Shanghai. It has five famous attractions, like the Bund, the Jade Buddha temple, the people square, the Yuyuan Garden, and the Oriental Tower.
