and GHG emission;
• To determine what impacts different
measures in the context of a terminal
have, either in an ex ante (scenario)
or ex post (monitoring) perspective.
Objectives
The expectations for an eco-efficiency calculator can be described as follows:
• Contribute to the greening of freight traffic in general and intermodal transport in particular;
• Gather basic data and results as a basis for elaborating CO -friendly planing/operation guidelines

• Close knowledge gaps regarding energy flows and CO2 emission along intermodal transport
chains. Existing calculation procedures either explicitly exclude intermodal terminals or consider
them only as a rough surcharge figure to the line transport.
Additionally, terminal operators and associated transport companies are interested in:
• Proving their greening status to customers and society;
• Fulfilling (future) carbon footprint standards / potential funding regulations linked to the greening status;
• Getting an overview on (main) energy consumers in order to reduce respective costs;
• Assessment of environmental- and energy-consumption cost related effects before investing
Consequently the ITEC has to provide the following main functions:
• Calculate the greenhouse gas performance of intermodal terminals including all relevant operations;
• Identify the terminal “hot spots”, i.e. the main energy consumers;
