Stylistic Analysis of Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening By Wang Junxia of Grade 2010 Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village, though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. Introduction An American poet, he is highly regarded for his realistic depictions of the rural life and his command of American colloquial speech. His work frequently employed themes from the early 1900s rural life in New England, using the setting to examine complex social and philosophical themes. A popular and often-quoted poet, Frost was honored frequently during his lifetime, receiving four Pulitzer Prizes. Robert Frost is acknowledged as the most noticeable poet in modern America. In 1960, he was entitled a gold medal by the America government in praise of his contribution to American culture. As a contemporary poet, he did not follow the fashion to change the poet forms as other poets had done, he accepted the traditional writing styles and adopted usual wordings, familiar rhythm and simple but beautiful themes. His poem can be divided into two categories: blank verse and metrical poems. Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening is one of the most representative lyrical poems. Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is a poem written in 1922 by Robert Frost, and published in 1923 in his New Hampshire volume. Imagery and personification are prominent in the work.
