Life and Career – He was born in Bombay, India. – He was sent back to England for his education. – In 1882 Kipling returned to India and worked as a newspaper reporter, contributing articles and poems. – He was the first English author to be awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1907. – He is a novelist as well as a popular poet. Ideas Kipling was the last English novelist who embodied many of the dreams of a declining British empire. He celebrated British imperialism, eulogized the racial superiority of the English over the natives they ruled, and defended the colonialist system by advocating the idea of “white man’s burden” in India. His Works – The Jungle Book (1895) – Kim (1901) – Of his 4 novel-length works, only Kim (1901) proved to be his finest. It is a remarkable story about India in English. Joseph Conrad (1857-1924)  1.
