LOCAL COLORISM Background (1).Historical background ?Marked differences existed between different parts of the country when the U.S expanded westward, with the East assuming the superior “aristocratic” posture. The rest of the country keenly felt the psychological need to assert their cultural identity by showing their local character. LOCAL COLORISM Background (2). Intellectual context.
