Step1
Lead in
I’ll show the students a few pictures of Qufu Normal University to help them know Qufu is the birthplace of a great educator, Confucius. And then I will ask what they know about Confucius as well as whether they know any other philosophers of ancient China.
Interest is the best teacher. This step can arouse the students’ interest in learning about great people.
By answering these questions students can recall some relative background knowledge about these famous philosophers.
Step2
Reading
Activity1:Ask students to read the passage and find out which topics are mentioned in the whole passage.
Get them to focus on the main idea of the reading passage through the fast reading activity.
Step3
Ask the students to read each paragraph and find out the mentioned topics and as much relative information about each mentioned topic as possible.
Let students to get some details of the three great philosophers of ancient China through careful reading activities.
Step 4
Compare the similarities and differences of the ideas of the three philosophers.
This activity helps the students to consolidate what they learn about these philosophers as well as their ideas.
Step5
Evaluation and debate
Role-play activity
One student of each group plays the part of an exchange student of an American middle school while other group members play the part of the students in that school who can ask the exchange student any question about these three philosophers.
Homework
Self-show according to the given topics.
By evaluation, the students learn to appreciate cooperation and experience success.
It can help the students to apply what they have learned .
Practice makes perfect.
