UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD INTRODUCTION It is located in the city of Oxford, it is the oldest university in the English-speaking world,established in 1167. It has a worldwide reputation and important position in U.K. In 1209, because of the conflict, some scholars in Oxford moved to Cambridge Town in the northeastern, and established the university of Cambridge. Since then, two universities started a long competition from each other. SCHOOL MOTTO: Dominus illuminatio Mea ( Latin ), means the Lord is my light from the Bible HISTORY Oxford is located in the Thames Valley, the name came from a legend that it is the place where the ox ford the river. Before the 12st Century, there was no university in Britain, people went to France for education. HISTORY In 1167, the king of England had a quarrel with the king of France, the king of England recalled all scholars in France, and forbade them to go to the Paris university. However, these scholars returned from Paris, and gathered in Oxford. So people began to think of establishing university in Oxford -- University of Oxford. CAMPUS Oxford consists of 38 colleges and 7 Permanent Private Halls. (永久性私立学院) Oxford has a total of 104 libraries, which is the second largest library in the UK (after the British Library) collection of 6000,000 books.
