Abstract This paper analyzes the “spiritual lost” of the the generation of the 1980s and the “lost generation” in the U.S. And also it explores their spiritual performance when they face the transformation of the society. It seems that they are very happy and they do not care about anything, but actually, they are dissatisfied with their life and the society and suffering a lot in their hearts. In the acquisitive society, money becomes more important than ever before and money worship is becoming more and more popular; there are unfair phenomena here and there in the society, which make people hopeless; and people are becoming indifferent and apathetic. By comparing the United States economic conditions, political policies and culture in the period of the 1920-1930 with that of China in the period after the year of the 1980s, this paper analyses the reasons behind the spiritual lost. And it also probes the difference of their “spiritual lost” as well as the way the two generations adopted to step out of the “spiritual lost” when they face it. At last the writer proposes that the generation of the 1980s should find the ways, which could help them step out the spiritual dilemma, and change this condition.
