《影视英语》课程教学大纲 课程代码课程类别：通识教育课程 授课对象：非英语专业本科生 开课学期：秋季学期 学 分：2 学分 主讲教师：卫岭、张立蓉、张辰毅、丁红云、朱彦 指定教材：卫岭主编，《英语影视欣赏》，苏州大学出版社，2010年。 Course Objectives As one of the general education courses of college English application, the English Film Appreciation targets at the following: ★ Using English movies as the tools and contexts, teachers can involve students in English language learning and give students opportunities to practice English listening, speaking, reading and writing in class to improve students comprehensive English competence. ★ By combining cultural study with language study , this course aims at broadening students world vision, deepen their understanding of western culture, and cultivate their cross-cultural communicative competence. ★ To improve students ability of critical thinking by brainstorming and involving them into discussions and debates about deep cultural problems and issues. ★ To cultivate students humanistic quality and aesthetic tastes and expose them to the atmosphere of art and culture to promote their comprehensive capabilities. Contents Unit 1: Man and Woman (Movie: Mona Lisa Smile) Teaching Focuses and Tasks Understanding the traditional values of women and women’s schooling after WWII in the US, and the importance of achieving personal fulfillment in equality with man despite difficulties. Task 1: Discuss and have some idea about gender discrimination in language, in Bible and in social code after related readings. Task 2: Have a general view of the background information and cultural aspects related to the movie, Wellesley College, Mona Lisa, Vincent Van Gogh and interpretation of art in different phases of time. Task 3: Learn about women’s role and their values of life in 1950s in the States and the west, share information about woman’s liberation and the three respective feminist movements in the west. Task 4: Iron out language difficulties in the context and appreciate those fine lines and classic sentences o
