《中国地方文化英语导读》课程教学大纲 课程代码课程类别：通识教育课程 授课对象：非英语专业本科生 开课学期：秋季学期 学 分：2学分 主讲教师：顾卫星，叶建敏，王德春，冷洁，郝吉环，申沁，左步雷，刘仪等 指定教材：顾卫星，叶建敏主编，《中华文明与地方文化英文导读》，苏州大学出版社， 2009年． Course Objectives As a general course in college English education to develop students’ English application and cross-cultural communication abilities, the course aims to ★ introduce Chinese civilization into its teaching process to provide rich, real and understandable contents to train students’ application abilities to listen, speak, read and write. ★ teach traditional and regional Chinese cultures to help students properly introduce in English to the world Chinese civilizations and cultures, promoting cross-cultural communication. ★ improve students’ cultural qualities and humanistic cultivation, arousing students’ national identity and pride. ★ upgrade students’ social adaptation abilities and increase employment opportunities in the competitive regional development. Contents Lecture 1: Approach to the Course Teaching Focuses and Tasks Introducing course objectives, contents and evaluations; helping students understand the importance of the course in improving English application, promoting cross-cultural communication and experiencing unique local culture. Task 1: Understand the difference between the terms of civilization and culture. Task 2: Get to know the contributions made by the Chinese culture and civilization to the world development. Task 3: Make classroom presentation to enhance the understanding of culture. Lecture 2: Beautiful China Teaching Focuses and Tasks Understanding the origin and development of the Chinese civilization; introducing unique folk beliefs, customs and habits of the Chinese nationalities; appreciating beautiful Chinese sceneries of waters and mountains. Task 1: Watch videos about China and explore the cultural elements they reflect. Task 2: Understand and appreciate China’s beauty in geography and history that contributes to the unique diversity of the Chinese
