Teaching topic: Unit 1 Festivals and celebrations

Teaching goals:
1. Knowledge goals
To enable the students to know the earliest festivals with reasons for them and four different kinds of festivals that occur in most parts of the world
2. Ability goals
1).To train Ss’ skill of speaking;
2).To develop Ss’ ability of reading and let them learn different reading skills.
3.Emotion goals
1).To encourage Ss to show positive and healthy attitude towards different festivals and customs.
2).To get Ss to further understand the differences between Chinese and foreign cultures.
Teaching methods
Fast reading; task-based method; Cooperative learning method;
Teaching difficult and important points:
1).To improve the students’ speaking ability by talking about the festivals;
2). To develop Ss’ ability of reading and let them learn different reading skills.
Teaching procedures
Step 1. Greeting and Duty report
Greet the whole class as usual.
Step2.Warming up
Show some pictures and play a video then invite some students to answer the questions.
1. What festival is it? 2. Can you list other Chinese festivals?
3. Nowadays, foreign festivals are more and more popular in China. Can you list some?
Step3. Reading
1.Scanning
Scan the passage and then try to tell if these sentences are True or False.
Ask the students to look through the questions and then read the text quickly. Minutes later, check the answers with the whole class.
