It is a little hard to pinpoint Shanghai style. Perhaps “sweet” is the very word which is frequently used to describe Shanghai fare. Sichuan-Hunan food is famous for its hot and spicy flavor. Restaurant fare in Beijing is often an interesting hodge-podge of all these cuisines. So Chinese food offers a wide variety of tastes, from the spicy, the salty, to the sweet and sour, and it is easy for each individual to find a particular dish that satisfies
his peculiar taste buds.
Some may argue that the aesthetically presented food in the West appeals more to the eye, but I would say that much heed is also given to the harmony of the color, shape and size when Chinese dishes are being prepared. Not a few dishes can be seen as excellent pieces of art and some of them
even have very wonderful names. ; I love Chinese food, for its sophisticated preparations,
