An exposition is writing which explains something; a narration is writing which tells a story. They are to be handled differently. When you take up a reading comprehension passage, the first thing is to tell whether the passage is an exposition or a narration.第1页/共16页 3 For an exposition type passage, the method is to read the first sentence of each para-graph carefully and skip the rest of the paragraph. You’ll then find some of the questions following the passage which can already be answered. For questions you don’t have enough information to find the right answer, you’ll use a second method. This is to find a key word in the question itself, and then scan the passage to locate the key word. When you get an idea of what the story is about, it’s time to stop reading. Usually this happens when you’ve read one third of the passage.
