Teacher’s Book for Unit 7 Unit 7 Write a market research report Starting up About the unit For any type of business, market research is of great importance in attracting customers and making sales. Getting feedback from customers and analysing it enables a brand to discover what isn’t going well, and focus on how this can be improved. This unit looks at how to read a research graph, and offers strategies on how to summarise the market information. After completing this unit, Ss will be able to describe simple market research charts and summarise key information in a market report. Teaching objectives When teaching this unit, the T should enable Ss to note down information about market research, including price, channels and advertising (Set the task & Prepare for the task); describe simple market research charts and summarise customers’ feedback and suggestions (Develop the strategies); write a market research report (Fulfil the task & To extend). Teaching suggestions The T can present this unit in different ways. A product-oriented approach is suggested. With this approach, the T can guide Ss through the output task by showing them how to note down the information from the research materials and how to use the expressions to describe a chart. Motivating Ask Ss to think about what information should be included in a market research report. Enabling Scenario Introduce “Scenario” and help Ss to get background information about the task, e.g. people’s identities, information about the company, etc. Ask Ss to discuss in pairs what factors should be included in a research report. Explain the language tip. Set the task Ask Ss to listen to the conversation and ask them what the task is for Yang Tao. Listen again and ask Ss to finish the tasks in “Understand the text”.
