Another perspective is the cost-saving aspect, since in a terminal server environment, all application logic runs on the server, so the processing requirements for client machines are minimal. But even if client machines’ requirements are minimal, personal computers these days are powerful enough to concurrently handle a great set of tasks, so in such an environment, modern PCs used as thin clients, have their resources wasted. In this paper we attempt to scale terminal services to multiple servers, providing a proper and efficient load balancing method, while on top of that we attempt to utilize resources from the thin clients themselves, in order to maximize the efficiency of the whole apparatus or to give the capability of using them for external tasks. The client resources reclamation is achieved by forming a cluster comprising of all the client nodes. 1. The environment The network of our Operating System lab consisted of about 30 thin clients, one terminal server and a 100Mbit Ethernet connection. After the addition of one extra lab (Databases) with 15 thin clients and the RD underground center with 10 thin clients, we started to face problems of latency.
