•For over 50 years, Stirling Cars has been making a classic
English sports car. The car is mostly handmade, in the
’sfactory in northern England.
•Stirling Cars produces approxima y 500 cars a year. If you
want to buy a Stirling car, you must wait four to five years
before it is delivered. In spite of this, demand for the car is
strong. However, production costs are rising each year and
the needs to increase its profits.
The top managers disagree about how to increase
profitability. At the next management meeting, they will
consider the four options below.
1.automate production of the car to make about 4,000 cars a
year.
2.subcontract the manufacture of the engine to another firm to
increase production by 10% to 20%.
3.use more mechanized tools to make the body and increase
production by around 10%.
4.Raise the price of the car by around 40% and move to a
bigger factory so that production can be increased.
