张道真英语语法A COMPREHENSIVE ENGLISH GRAMMAR 精华版第三版桂林学院英语语法教师团队 定语 Chapter 19 一、定语表示法 1.1 定语表示法（1）形容词：She is a responsible girl. （2）代词：Whose fault is it? （3）数词：She bought two kilos of apples. （4）名词或名词所有格：They are going to send a trade delegation to China. （5）分词（短语）：There is a door leading to the garden. 定语可以用下面这些成分表示：（6）不定式（短语）：Perhaps in years to come we shall meet again. （7）介词短语：That has no relation to the matter under discussion. （8）副词：The scenery up at the lake is just breathtaking. （9）词组或合成词：Is there anything the matter with you? （10）从句：There are a number of factors which we’re to consider. 1.2 分词作定语（1）现在分词作定语① 许多现在分词已经变成形容词：It’s a very convincing example. ② 现在分词短语起一个定语从句的作用，都放在所修饰的词后面： People wishing (=who wish) to visit the caves may sign up here. 1.2 分词作定语（2）过去分词作定语① 很多已变成形容词，常常用作定语：She had a worried look on her face. ② 也可引起短语作定语，放在所修饰名词的后面，相当于一个定语从句： She bought a computer (which was) produced in Shanghai. 1.3 不定式作定语（1）在一定的句型中可用不定式作定语，如：I have several letters to write today. （2）在某些名词后，常可用不定式作定语：There’s no need to worry at all. 此外还有很多名词后面可跟不定式作定语，如：（3）不定式有时也可代替一个定语从句，如：She was quiet for days (which were) to come. ability ambition anxiety attempt campaigndecision determination drive eagerness effortfailure inclination intention plan promise 1.4 介词短语或副词作定语（1）介词短语作定语的时候不少，如：I’ve read a lot of books about animals. （2）在名词后可跟介词短语作定语： His absence from school was caused by illness. （3）副词作定语的时候也不少： They live in the valley beyond. 二、名词和名词组作定语 2.1 名词作定语（1）名词经常可用作定语，也可构成复合名词，如： passenger train goods train information desk service counter the car door trouser pockets cat food fish pond 2.1 名词作定语（2）还可用合成名词作定语：a long-distance call first-class tickets last-minute arrangement one-way traffic present-day life a part-time job third-world countries frontnews （3）还可用名词所有格作定语：She wor
