Mrosla first met Mark Eklund in her third-grade classroom at St. Mary’s School in Morris, Minnesota, in 1959, and she encountered him again in 1965 when she served as his junior high math teacher. In April 1971, Mark was sent to Vietnam where he worked in a truck parts warehouse and kept in touch with his family and friends through letters. When Mrosla returned from vacation in August 1971, she learned of Mark’s death from her parents. When she went to the funeral, she happened to know the wonderful memories that her little move brought to the children. It is suggested that teachers should consider explaining key words before reading Text A according to students’ English level so that students can understand difficult words during reading, and at the same time, organize students to discuss some of their fond memories before class. The concept of reflection in this text is a skill that needs to be mastered. It can guide students to awaken their beautiful self in their hearts, thus having a positive impact on their future work and study. Text B is selected from Rachel Naomi Remen’s book Kitchen Table Wisdom, a memoir and insight into life. In her career, Remen met a special woman named Ana who was receiving chemotherapy for ovarian cancer. Ana thinks she is completely selfish and nobody loves her. Through the constant contact between Remen and her, she slowly realized that she was lucky enough to survive the war from an early age and had been focusing on how to survive in this world. At first, Remen did not know Ana’s worst situation, she thought she was only a witness of Ana’s life, and she could only listen to her in her own darkness. When she tried to understand her and comfort her, she found it impossible. Later, Ana began to tell Remen about some “selfish” behaviors in her works. At the end of the story, Ana went to bed at night and dreamed of a rose. She
