英语一般过去时态的原型研究的中期报告 Introduction The purpose of this report is to provide an update on the research progress of the study of the Simple Past Tense in English. This report covers the literature review carried out so far, the research question and hypothesis that have been formulated, the methodology employed, and the results attained so far. Literature Review The literature review aimed to identify the current understanding and different approaches to teach and learn the Simple Past Tense in English. The study revealed several studies on the acquisition and teaching of the Simple Past Tense. The studies mainly focused on the difficulties encountered by students in mastering the tense and the teaching approaches employed by educators to aid the acquisition of the tense. Research Question and Hypothesis The primary research question is how to improve the acquisition of the Simple Past Tense in English. The hypothesis formulated is that the use of new instructional materials and activities would increase students ability to learn and use the Simple Past Tense in English. Methodology The research employed both qualitative and quantitative methods. Data was collected using a survey questionnaire administered to 50 students who were taught using the conventional method, and another 50 students who were taught using the new instructional materials and activities. The questionnaire comprised of open-ended and close-ended questions designed to elicit information on the students past tense competency. The data collected was analyzed using statistical methods and a content analysis technique. Results Preliminary results indicate that students who used the new instructional materials and activities outperformed those who used the conventional method in terms of their ability to use and comprehend the Simple Past Tense in English. Statistical analysis showed a significant increase in their Simple Past Tense scores, indicating that the use of new instructional materials and activit
