Therearelotsoftheoriessurroundingtheoriginsoftheday,butoneexplanationisconnectedwiththechangeinthecalendarinthe16thcentury,whichmeantthat1stAprilwasnolongerthebeginningoftheyear.ThosewhostillcelebratedtheNewYearon1stAprilwerecalledfools.
