AsEnglishmajors,welearnthetechniquesandtheoryoftranslation,butwealsomustbeadeptatculturalawarenessandsensitivity,whicharefundamentaltosuccessfultranslation.Thisstudyaimstoexplorethecross-culturalcommunicationissuesbetweenChineseandEnglishbyexaminingcultural-specifictermsandexpressionsinChinesetextsandtheirtranslationintoEnglishbyEnglishmajors.

Objectives:

-Toinvestigatethecultural-specificitemsinChinesetexts.

-ToexplorethemethodsEnglishmajorsuseintranslatingChinesecultural-specificitemsintoEnglish.

-Toidentifyanyculturalgapsormisunderstandingsthatmayexistinthetranslationprocess.

-Toprovidesuggestionsforimprovingculturalawarenessandsensitivityintranslatingcultural-specificitems.

Methodology:

Thestudywillemployaqualitativeresearchdesignusingsemi-structuredinterviewswithEnglishmajorsmajoringintranslationorinterpretationataChineseuniversity.TheinterviewswillbeconductedinEnglishandwillcoverquestionsrelatedtotranslationtechniquesandculturalawareness.TheparticipantswillbeaskedtotranslateChinesetextscontainingcultural-specificitemsandexplaintheirtranslationchoices.Dataanalysiswillbeconductedusingcontent
