    Antibioticsarethesubstancesproducedbyvariousspeciesofmicroorganismsthatcansuppressandkillthegrowthofothermicroorganisms.Bacteriostaticdrugs---caninhibitthegrowthandproliferationsofmicroorganisms,butcannotkillthem.(Macrolides-erythromycin)Bactericidaldrugs---cannotonlysuppressthegrowthandproliferationsofmicroorganismsbutalsodestroythem.(penicillins)

    Antimicrobialspectrum---istherangeofantimicrobialaction.Itmeansthenumberofmicroorganismsthatthedrugcansuppressorkill.broadspectrum–Ampicillin,affectawidevarietyofmicrobialspeciesnarrowspectrum--Isoniazid(anantituberculosisdrug),actingonlyonasingleorlimitedgroupofmicroorganisms

    Minimuminhibitoryconcentration(MIC)--Thelowestconcentrationofantibioticsthatinhibitthegrowthofmicroorganismstoadegreeofvisiblenumberafterincubationinstandardconditionforabout24hours.Toprovideeffectiveantimicrobialtherapy,theclinicallyobtainableantibioticconcentrationinbodytissuesandfluidsshouldbegreaterthantheMIC.Minimumbactericidalconcentration(MBC)--Thelowestconcentrationofantimicrobialagentthatresultsina99.9%declineincolonycountafterovernightbrothdilutionincubations.
